Joseph Grenny

Chairman, VitalSmarts

A co-founder of Unitus Labs, Joseph Grenny is co-founder and chairman of VitalSmarts, where he has co-authored and contributed to eight books in the areas of personal and organizational effectiveness, including the New York Times bestsellers Influencer, Change Anything, Crucial Conversations and Crucial Confrontations.

His work has been translated into more than two dozen languages and has been used by more than 300 Fortune 500 companies. VitalSmarts has been on the Inc. 500 fastest-growing companies list for three years in a row, and the founders were also chosen as Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneurs of the Year. Joseph was formerly president of California Computer Corporation and an executive for the Covey Leadership Center. Joseph holds a B.A. in international relations from Brigham Young University.

Mike Murray

Helper and Advisor

Mike is a co-founder and past chairman of Unitus Labs and the current Chairman of Unitus Investment Management. Mike spent 20 years as a senior executive in the personal computer industry. He has worked directly for Steve Jobs (Apple Computer), Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer (Microsoft).  He now provides help and advice to a small group of individuals and companies.  In addition to this, he and his wife use the resources of their family foundation to support projects that create permanent improvements in people’s lives, both in Seattle and internationally. These include start-up grants to Friends of the Children (Seattle), Ashesi University (Accra, Ghana), Kiva.org (San Francisco) and Vittana (Seattle).

From 2007-2010, Mike served as mission president in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He holds an engineering degree and an MBA, both from Stanford University. The Murrays have four children, all of whom are married. Mike’s hobbies include CrossFit exercise, golf, raising cattle and fly-fishing.

Bob Gay

CEO and Managing Director, Huntsman-Gay Capital Partners

A co-founder of Unitus Labs, Robert C. “Bob” Gay is the co-founder and CEO of Huntsman Gay Capital Partners, a billion dollar plus private equity firm located in Palo Alto, California. Bob recently served for three years as a mission president in West Africa for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Before going to Africa, Bob was a managing director for 16 years at Bain Capital, one of the world’s leading private equity firms with more than $70 billion under management. Prior to Bain Capital, Bob was an executive vice president of General Electric Credit Corporation Capital Markets Group, a vice president in the Merchant Banking Group at Kidder Peabody, and an engagement manager at the international consulting firm McKinsey & Company.

Bob is actively involved in poverty relief and humanitarian aid in developing countries, serving as a co-founder of the Ballard Center for Economic Self-Reliance at Brigham Young University and as an advisory board member of Ascend Alliance, and is the founder of the Komart Foundation in Ghana. Bob taught economics at Harvard University, where he also received a Ph.D. in business economics, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa with an AB from the University of Utah.

Tim Stay

CEO, Perfect Search

Tim is a co-founder and a past executive director of Unitus Labs. Tim Stay is currently the CEO of Perfect Search Corporation, an innovative search engine technology company. He was a co-founder of Know More Media, an online business media publishing company. He started and ran Marketing Ally, which became one of the Top 50 Call Centers in the U.S. He started and later sold FreeServers.com to About.com. He was a co-founder of Bizcradle, a business incubator that launched technology companies. He served as an Advisory Board member for the Ballard Center for Economic Self-Reliance at Brigham Young University and on the Lakeridge Junior High School Community Council where they recently won the Best K-12 Public School in Utah 3 out of the last 4 years.

Tim holds a civil engineering degree and also has an M.B.A. and an M.A. in International Studies, with a focus on economic development in developing countries, all from BYU. The Stays have 8 children.
